5 Things I Want to Explore and Improve in 2018

New Year's Resolutions and Intentions for Self-Care

By Courtney Claycomb

I took a lot of time to reflect on what was—and wasn't—working for me throughout 2017. I also started to accept what it feels like to experience personal growth as an ongoing process.

I learned the importance of facing my insecurities with self-compassion and kindness. And I stopped obsessing over failures by paying closer attention to what I could be excited about changing.

So this year I’m starting off with 5 things I want to explore and improve:

#1: Show Up

I want to be better at showing up for myself. I’m not going to hold back on my goals because I’m waiting for the perfect moment or opportunity to put myself out there. I’m ready to be excited about new things that are unfamiliar. And even if they don’t work out, I want to feel like I showed up and did the work to come to that conclusion.

#2: Be Better To My Body

Literally whatever that means. I spent a lot of time recovering my physical and mental health in 2017, and it was seriously overwhelming. There are a lot of things I want to try—things I’ve been asked to try by doctors—which I know will take time and dedication to test out for myself.

#3: Live More Sustainably

Whether that’s initiating a self-imposed ban on food delivery or taking a break from some of my favorites stores, I am going to be paying closer attention to the areas of excess in my life. I want to read more and explore some new ideas this month that can bring me closer to spending less, wasting less, and doing more with what I already have.

#4: Get Organized at Home

I felt like a majority of the last year was really unorganized and chaotic, which is why I want to try some new techniques to get excited about organization again. A good place to start: my closet.

#5: Create a New Morning Routine

Lastly, I want to pack up all of my objectives and re-establish a morning routine that works well for me and keeps me going. Starting a new routine can definitely feel like a daunting task, but I really don’t think that my current routine is doing any good in helping me start my day off right.

What intentions are you setting for the new year?
