My Favorite Products for Way Better Mornings
By Elizabeth Villa
If you listen to our podcast you know that I've been struggling to start a morning routine for a very long time. When I settled into a new apartment at the beginning of the year I decided it was time to start getting serious about it and I'm really happy with the morning routine that's developed since. In the process of "figuring it out" I stumbled upon some products that made it easier and more enjoyable. Here they are along with a few that come highly recommended from the community.
1. Energizing Scents
I've been looking for ways to give my body the hint that it's time to wake up and get moving. Scents like grapefruit and eucalyptus are a helpful way to do just that. I am a big fan of PF Candle Co's Sweet Grapefruit Candle, Sweet Grapefruit Diffuser, and this Neroli and Eucalyptus Diffuser.
2. Bluetooth Shower Speaker
Starting new habits in the morning got a lot easier when I started tracking them in my SELF Journal. At the beginning of every week I write down my habits and the number of times I want to complete them during the week. Then every day at the end of my morning, I check off what I've done. Habit tracking apps can also do the trick!
The great thing about the SELF Journal is that, just like The Five Minute Journal, it has dedicated space to chart your goals and what you're grateful for every day.
4. Coffee for Your Body (Scrub)
Shaking off the slumber keeps getting easier with a body scrub like the FIG+YARROW Organic Cardamom + Coffee Body Scrub. Doing a body scrub in the AM helps me start the day with my skin feeling good (and not itchy) which is important for me.
5. Go-To Natural Deodorant
It's important to start the day feeling FRESH. About a year ago I started using Schmidt's deodorants and finally found a natural deodorant that works for me. My favorite scent for feeling fresh is Schmidt's Lavender + Sage Deodorant. I should note that while Schmidt's works for me, it doesn't work for everyone. Give it a try and see what you think!
6. THE RIGHT CONTAINER FOR YOUR WARM BEVERAGE
Including an incentive in your morning routine is one best practice for sticking to a morning routine. For me, that incentive is nice, warm, and delicious coffee. Most mornings it's served at home in a fun mug like the ban.do I Am Very Busy mug but on the days I go to a coffee shop or take it to go, it goes into a KeepCup Glass Reusable Coffee Cup.
7. MCT OIL AS CREAMER
Mornings are a chance to start the day feeling nourished. One of the best, easy ways to do that is with a morning smoothie. I add in smoothie powders like the Vega One All-In-One Plant Based Protein Powder (my favorite) to get a boost of nutrients. I also add a little Moon Juice Brain Dust to manage stress and get focused.
9. Meditation cushion
If you're trying to fit new habits into your morning, one way to set yourself up for success is to dedicate specific areas in your house for them. We talked recently about an at-home workout space, but how about a space for meditation? Try the Buckwheat Hull Filled Yoga Meditation Cushion to get started. It comes highly recommended!
10. A DAMN GOOD DRY SHAMPOO
Washing my hair in the morning is a struggle which is why I rarely do it. Instead, I keep a great dry shampoo as staple in my morning routine. With my dry shampoo and straightener by my side, it only takes a few minutes to do my hair in the morning. What a dream! My current favorite is the Kristin Ess Style Reviving Dry Shampoo.
11. Gym Bag Essentials
I work from home and I don't go to the gym, but I still can't not talk about the adorable and practical gym bag essential packs that makeup brands have been making. There are plenty to choose from, but the one that has my eye is the Tarte Limited-Edition Gym Bag Grabs Athleisure Essentials.
BONUS: Subscriptions make it even easier
Subscriptions help keep your mornings running smoothly month after month. No thinking or ordering required. MistoBox Coffee, CareOf Vitamins and Ritual Vitamins, ClassPass, and Headspace are all subscriptions I use and love or come highly recommended from the community.
